Chick-fil-A has been known for its classic chicken sandwich for years, but now they've taken it up a notch with their Spicy Chicken Sandwich. This deluxe version of the sandwich includes green leaf lettuce, tomato, and Pepper Jack cheese. But is it really spicy? To find out, I decided to try the sandwich for myself. I ordered a deluxe version and my son ordered the regular spicy chicken sandwich.
When we opened the wrappers, we realized that they had been switched! So I ended up with the regular spicy chicken sandwich and my son had the deluxe version. The first thing I noticed was that the chicken was not breaded. This is different from other fast food restaurants that rely on breading to carry the heat. Instead, Chick-fil-A uses a seasoning blend that gives the chicken a slow, low heat.
I wasn't really impressed with the taste of the sandwich, although the pepper jack cheese was good. To get a better idea of how spicy people thought the sandwich was, I looked at a Reddit poll. The largest number of people were divided as to whether it was spicy or not spicy enough. About 30% of voters thought Chick-fil-A could make it even hotter.
For comparison, Wendy's also has a spicy chicken sandwich. It uses breading to carry the heat, but it's not as hot as Chick-fil-A's version. McDonald's also has a crispy chicken fillet smeared with habanero sauce to increase the heat. Overall, I found that Chick-fil-A's spicy chicken sandwich is not too spicy for most people.
Those who are very sensitive to spicy foods may want to try it with caution. The pepper jack cheese and tomato and lettuce make it a delicious sandwich, but if you're looking for something really hot you may want to try one of the other options.
